"Fire In The Sky"

This is a painting I did this morning, which was inspired by last night's sunset. I didn't take a photo at the time, so it's pretty much just my recollection of it. My main focus was the sky itself, so the land and water are the result of my imagination and just added to complete the composition. This is Oil on a 12" x 16" panel.

I am spell-bound!! - You did this without a photo reference!!!

Well, I did it from memory and inspiration, so I'm sure it strayed from the actual scene.
But, I had a mental note of the red tints and that is what I was trying to duplicate. You'll find that the more you paint, your "photographic memory" becomes keener and you can piece together little shreds of what you can recall into a larger tapestry.

I'm glad you love to paint such dramatic skys because you are real good at them. You are a true inspiration. I just ordered your mountain DVD with the 4 or 5 colors used in it. I can't wait for it to arrive. You are great about reaching out to a lot of people through your art work and teaching skills.

Thank you for your kind comments and your purchase. I think you'll enjoy the Dvd, as I've had a lot of great feedback on it. Happy Painting!
